i love pundakit

I love ZAMBALES
San Antonio is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Zambales in the Philippines. According to the latest Philippine census, it has a population of 32,494 people in 6,483 households in an area of 18,812 hectares. As of 2009, it has 17,539 registered voters. San Antonio was a hunting region where indigenous hunters from the northern towns of Zambales would hunt, and gather. The first settlers from the Paoay region of the Ilocos Nortearrived in 1830, and founded the first Spanish settlement that developed into what is now San Antonio.
• San Antonio was given the status of district or barrio in 1836. The town mayor in that period was Don Gregorio Banaga. He governed the town from 1836 to 1849. He was succeeded by Don Vicente Lacuesta in 1849, from Teniente Primero to Teniente Absoluto. The last mayor was Don Santiago Ladrillono. He was succeeded by Don Dimas Pascasio as governor in 1856. They selected their leaders every year. In 1891 to 1898, Don Pablo Corpuz was the only Capitan Municipal selected then appointed Don Felix Magsaysay as the first President municipal, and many more followed up to 1931 to 1945.
• The town was the site of the United States Navy known as the San Miguel Naval Communication Station. After the earthquake and eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, the United States Army decided to abandon its military base in the Philippines.

San Antonio is politically subdivided into 14 barangays.
• Angeles San Juan (Pob.) (Sitio Mabanban)
• San Miguel Pundaquit
• Rizal (Pob.) (Sentro Pueblo) Burgos (Pob.)
• East Dirita
• Luna (Pob.)
• San Gregorio (Pob.)
• San Nicolas (Pob.)
• Santiago (Pob.) (Pamatawan)
• West Dirita
TOURIST ATTRACTIONS;
 Pundaquit
Nestled in the navel of the Zambales coastline, a Spanish Light House from the 1800s is found atop the "Islas de Punta Capones." This is reminiscent of places such as "Sierra Leone." Zambales is also home to the famous Crystal Beach surf in the quaint town of San Narciso. This surf spot is known as a "surfing paradise" closest to Manila. There you will find surf lessons, board rentals, as well as cozy accommodations. Pundaquit is also fast becoming as surfing capital of Luzon.
Barangay Pundakit is a small fishing village in San Antonio, but it has become more popular as the jump-off point for Anawangin Cove, Capones Island and Camara Island. And now, Pundakit has become more exciting when word spread about Nagsasa Cove and Sinlanguin Cove, which supposedly offer a more quiet environment for tourists.

Very few people have gone to the farther, more pristine coves known as Nagsasa Cove and Sinlanguin Cove where a few friendly and hospitable Aetas live in harmony with nature. Unknown to many, these coves offer a more relaxed and quiet environment for tourists and campers alike during their stay and adventures in Zambales. Inshore recreation such as watercraft rides, island tours, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and camping are very common in this part of Zambales. Surfing during the monsoon season is popular amongst locals and tourists alike. Locals and resort owners who own surf boards rent them out for a fairly good price and will be happy to teach you the basics and precautions of surfing the waves of Pundaquit.

 Anawangin Cove
It is a crescent shaped cove with a pristine white sand beach. What makes the place unique is the unusual riddle of tall pine trees flourishing round its vicinity. There are no roads leading to Anawangin. It is only accessible by a 30 minute boat ride from Pundaquit, San Antonio, Zambales or by a six-hour trek through hot, open trails thru the Pundaquit range. The cove's relative isolation has kept it free from development - as of this writing, there are no resorts on this sparkling piece of natural beauty, save for a few huts and deep wells. Just behind the beach is the pine forest and a marsh, where one can find natural springs feeding to the sea. The area is home to a number of bird species.[1]
 Anawangin is the nearest cove from the poblacion, and is currently the most visited and developed amongst Pundakit's coves.
Anawangin Cove is surrounded by mountains that look like gigantic rocks, known to be formed by tumultous volcanic activities in the past. But what amuses tourists is the presence of pine trees neatly lined up in rows (as in a garden or park) just behind the banks of the cove. It is surmised by locals that the seeds of the agoho pine were strewn during the Mt. Pinatubo eruption, and fell on the cove together with the ash fall.
The campsite and beach area were quite crowded when we went there, being summer and a long weekend. Tourists swarmed and swam in the beach area; sunbathers basked in the sun and slept on the sand.
Anawangin Cove is a private property, so tourists pay P50 for day tour and P150 for overnight stay/camping to the caretaker.

 C apones Island
Capones Island is a 2-kilometer long bone-shaped volcanic mass located 4 kilometers off the coast of Brgy. Pundaquit in San Antonio, Zambales. To get to the island, you take a short boat ride through the rough waters of the South China Sea. There are no resorts on Capones, but you can camp overnight on the beach as long as there’s no typhoons. If you prefer a study roof over your head, you have to stay among the resorts in Pundaquit. (Pundaquit is also a surfer’s destination, albeit a minor one.)
Although there are no commercial accommodations on the island, there are actually structures there. One is a lighthouse (photo) and the other is an unfinished building(photo). Constructed by the Spanish colonial government, the lighthouse went into operation on July 16, 1890. Today, the lighthouse is unmanned, the adjacent quarters abandoned, and is solar-powered like many other lighthouses in the country. (I guess someone goes to the lighthouse regularly to do maintenance?) There are plans to restore and preserve the lighthouse as part of the Philippine heritage. See this extremely informative EPAFI webpage to learn about that plan and to read up on the history of Faro de Punta Capones. As for the unfinished building, I couldn’t find any information about it and what it was supposed to be.
• Capones Island is one of the main attractions in Pundaquit Zambales. The island is actually a big lump of rock formation with very little soil. Beaches around the island aren’t that homie for the usual tourist mainly because of the sand and rock mixture from the crashing waves of the open ocean.

 Nagsasa cove
Nagsasa Cove, Zambales. A cove beach situated in the coast of Zambales. The beach cove is only accessible by an hour boat ride from Pundaquit. Just like its twin sister cove the Anawaggin Cove, it is surrounded by mountains and pine trees and is much more deeper into the mountains than Anawaggin. Camping by tent and cooking your own food is the to stay for days. The place is maintained by Aeta people.
